Senate Sets Up Committee to Monitor State of Emergency in Rivers State |LAGOS EYE NEWS
The Senate has constituted a 19-member committee to monitor and oversee the implementation of the State of Emergency declared in Rivers State by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The Senate in plenary set-up a 19-member ad-hoc Committee to oversee the activities of the Rivers State House of Assembly and the Sole Administrator appointed to manage the State.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio made the announcement on Tuesday as lawmakers reconvened in Abuja following the Easter and Sallah recess.
The committee is chaired by Senate Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, and includes prominent lawmakers across party lines.

The Committee, chaired by the Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele (APC, Ekiti Central) with Senate Minority Whip, Rufai Hanga (NNPP, Kano Central) as Vice Chairman, is tasked with monitoring the implementation of Federal directives, ensuring legal compliance by the caretaker administration, and safeguarding public interest, while working toward the restoration of democratic governance in Rivers State.
The Committee will also focus on reconciliation efforts among stakeholders in Rivers and other affected regions, with the aim of addressing the root causes of unrest and promoting national unity.
