Adeleke’s Promise on Hajj Camp Nears Fulfilment as Project Hits 70% Completion|LAGOS EYE NEWS

Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has reaffirmed his commitment to religious development in the state as construction of the first-ever Hajj Camp nears completion, reaching 70 percent progress.

The Governor, who visited the construction site today, expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work on the facility, which includes a 2,000-seater auditorium and an administrative block. He assured that the camp would be ready for use by the 2026 Hajj pilgrims.

The project, located in Osun, is historic, marking the first time since the state’s creation in 1991 that a dedicated Hajj Camp is being built.

Governor Adeleke had last year expressed dismay that Osun was the only Southwestern state without such a facility, prompting him to lay the foundation with a directive for timely completion before the end of 2024. The revised completion date is now set for October 2025.

During his inspection, the governor was warmly received by jubilant construction workers and lauded the effort of the contractors. He emphasized that the initiative reflects his administration’s commitment to inclusive governance and respect for religious communities.

Earlier in the day, Governor Adeleke addressed 1,221 intending pilgrims from the state scheduled to participate in the 2025 Hajj. He urged them to be exemplary representatives of Osun in their conduct and appearance while in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

“As ambassadors of Osun State, you represent the values, hopes, and prayers of our entire state. Hajj is not only a physical journey but a spiritual one that calls for empathy, endurance, and unity,” Adeleke said.

He also reaffirmed his administration’s pledge to build a befitting mosque at the Government House and noted that funds have already been released to ensure the timely completion of the Hajj Camp.

The Chairman of the Osun State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, Sheikh Maruf Ishola, expressed appreciation to the governor for providing substantial support to the pilgrims. He disclosed that Adeleke approved six different subsidy measures covering transportation, medical services, and a special Sallah celebration on the day of Arafah.

“These subsidies are not part of the regular Hajj fees and reflect the governor’s uncommon support for the Muslim community,” Ishola noted.
