LASEPA’s Call to Action: Prioritizing Clean Air and a Healthier Tomorrow for Lagos |LAGOS EYE NEWS

The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) concluded the Year 2025 Air Quality Awareness Week with a call for action on a cleaner and healthier environment in Lagos State.

Speaking at press conference held at the LASEPA Head Office, The Secretariat, Alausa, LASEPA General Manager , Dr. Babatunde Ajayi, emphasized the importance of sustained awareness, collaboration, and public engagement in addressing the challenges of air pollution in the state.

Dr Ajayi noted that the theme for the Year 2025 “Stay Air Aware,” was both apt and instructive, serving as a reminder of the need for continuous vigilance and proactive efforts in safeguarding air quality in Lagos.

He described the campaign as a testament to the collective commitment of the State government to confront pollution and its attendant harmful effects on public health.

He highlighted that LASEPA, throughout the year, has engaged communities, organizations, and stakeholders to raise public awareness about air pollution, while also driving advocacy and implementing sustainable practices.

Dr Ajayi pointed out that visible progress made in the areas of clean energy adoption, improved public transportation, and enhanced environmental regulations.

As the lead agency responsible for protecting the environment in Lagos, LASEPA remains committed to monitoring and enforcing air quality standards, educating the public on practical steps for cleaner air, and collaborating with stakeholders to promote innovative solutions and policy change.

He highlighted some notable achievements made by his agency over the past year in the fight against air pollution. These include; deployment of sixty low-cost sensors across the state to monitor air quality in various communities, launch of a Greenhouse Gas Emission Registry with a Measurement, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) platform, and consistent stakeholder engagement on the Lagos Carbon Registry.
