Osun Amotekun Condemns Attack on Operatives by Armed Hoodlums in Egbedore |LAGOS EYE NEWS
The Osun State Security Network Agency, popularly known as Amotekun Corps, has condemned what it described as a violent and unprovoked attack on its operatives by suspected hoodlums at its command post in Awo, Egbedore Local Government Area.
According to a statement issued on Monday by the Corps’ Public Relations Officer, Yusuf Idowu Abass, the incident occurred following a report by the Oniwoye of Iwoye, who alerted security officials to an unauthorized burial on land designated for the community’s ancestors.
In response, four Amotekun operatives were deployed to the scene to investigate. On arrival, the operatives discovered the burial had already taken place. It was at this point that a notorious gang led by Ismaila Aluko, a wanted thug, reportedly ambushed the operatives, inflicting injuries before they could tactically withdraw to their base at Awo to seek reinforcement.
However, the situation escalated when the hoodlums, allegedly emboldened, regrouped and launched a second attack on the Amotekun command post. The attack, which happened in the presence of officers from the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), and some family members of the attackers, saw the assailants attempting to disarm the operatives and leaving several of them with serious injuries.
The injured personnel were immediately rushed to a medical facility for urgent treatment.
Describing the attack as a direct assault on the security and peace of the community, the Amotekun Corps vowed to work closely with other security agencies to ensure all those involved are arrested and brought to justice.
“The Osun Amotekun Corps remains resolute in its mandate to protect lives, property, and maintain community peace. We will not relent in our efforts to uphold law and order across Osun State,” the statement added.
