Ogun NUJ Mourns as Female Broadcast Journalist Slumps, Dies in Office |LAGOS EYE NEWS

The Ogun State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has been thrown into mourning following the sudden death of Mrs. Bukola Agbakaizu, a prominent female broadcast journalist, who died while preparing to assume her afternoon shift duty in Abeokuta, the state capital.

Mrs. Agbakaizu, who served as an Ex-Officio member of the state NUJ Council, reportedly slumped inside one of the studios of Ogun State Television (OGTV) and was later confirmed dead by doctors at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Idi-Aba, Abeokuta, where she was rushed for medical attention.

Sources close to the station disclosed that the veteran broadcaster showed no signs of ill health before the incident, adding that she was lively and set to take over the afternoon broadcast.

In a condolence message, the Ogun State chapter of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) expressed deep shock over the sudden passing of Mrs. Agbakaizu, describing her as a consummate and dedicated professional who served the state-owned media house with distinction.

Chairperson of NAWOJ in the state, Mrs. Sekinat Salam, described the death as a “painful and bitter pill to swallow,” noting that the late Agbakaizu’s absence would create a huge vacuum both in the media and among her colleagues.

“She was not only a committed journalist but also a compassionate leader whose passion for the profession and exemplary service will be greatly missed,” Salam said.

According to the statement, the 52-year-old journalist, a mother of two, was widely admired for her dedication, love for humanity, and passion for the pen profession.

“Ogun NAWOJ received the news of Mrs. Bukola Agbakaizu’s death with a rude shock. Her departure came at a time her experience and leadership would have been most needed by the association.

“As a devoted member of the NUJ and NAWOJ, her legacy of compassion, dedication, and love will continue to be cherished by all,” Salam added.

The association prayed for the repose of her soul and for divine comfort and protection for the family she left behind.
