Gateway ’25: Makinde Reaffirms Commitment to Sports Devt as Oyo Receives Torch of Unity |LAGOS EYE NEWS

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the development of sports at all levels through the provision of necessary infrastructure and training facilities.

Governor Makinde gave the assurance on Tuesday during the symbolic reception of the Torch of Unity for the 2025 National Sports Festival, tagged ‘Gateway 2025’, scheduled to hold in Ogun State.

The event took place at the Deputy Governor’s Office in Ibadan.

The Torch of Unity, which berthed in Ibadan as part of its nationwide tour, was formally received by the State Deputy Governor, Barrister Bayo Lawal, from Mrs. Ekeana Ibora, who led the delegation of the National Sports Commission alongside members of Team Oyo.

Speaking on behalf of Governor Makinde, Barrister Lawal described the Torch of Unity as a symbol of peace, unity, and brotherhood that connects the 36 states of the federation.

He charged Team Oyo athletes to uphold the values of sportsmanship, integrity, and exemplary conduct at the forthcoming National Sports Festival, while assuring that the state government will continue to reward athletes who bring honour and glory to Oyo State.
