NIPOST, NACA Partner to Strengthen National Health Logistics Network |LAGOS EYE NEWS
The Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) has entered into a strategic partnership with the National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA) to bolster the country’s health logistics system under the National Integrated Specimen Referral Network (NiRSN) and the Resilient and Sustainable Systems for Health (RSSH II) intervention program.
Under the leadership of NACA’s Director-General, Dr. Temitope Ilori, the partnership recognizes NIPOST as a critical component of Nigeria’s healthcare delivery chain, particularly in the safe and efficient transportation of biological specimens.
The initiative will commence with a six-month pilot phase in Taraba and Abia States. Key activities during the pilot phase will include: Upgrading infrastructure at 10 NIPOST locations. Building capacity and providing staff training on biological sample handling and transportation. Facilitating specimen collection and delivery from healthcare facilities to hubs and testing laboratories.
The project is aimed at improving diagnostics, supporting disease control initiatives, and enhancing healthcare outcomes, especially in underserved and hard-to-reach communities.
Following a successful pilot, the program is expected to scale up to cover all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
This collaboration is seen as a significant step in repositioning NIPOST as a key development partner, expanding its role beyond mail delivery to driving impactful contributions in the health sector and other critical areas of national development.
