The Osun State Amotekun Corps has successfully recovered a stolen Toyota Matrix vehicle and six LG 42-inch televisions following a violent robbery at a hotel in Ode-Omu.
The swift recovery was carried out in Ogere, Ogun State, after a high-risk gun battle between Amotekun operatives and the suspected robbers. The operation was supported by officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ogere Command.
The robbery occurred in the early hours of Saturday when a gang of armed assailants attacked a hotel in Ode-Omu, where guests from Lagos had lodged overnight to attend a funeral. During the incident, the robbers made away with a Toyota Matrix valued at approximately N7 million and six LG televisions worth over N3 million.
Victims immediately reported the attack to the Amotekun Command in Ayedaade Local Government Area. In response, a coordinated tracking and pursuit operation was launched by local and state Amotekun operatives.
The robbers, under pressure from the pursuing operatives, were forced to abandon the stolen vehicle and other items in a bush near Ogere, Ogun State. It is believed that some of the suspects escaped with gunshot wounds.
Confirming the incident, the Corps Commander of Osun Amotekun, Chief (Dr.) Hon. Adekunle Isaac Omoyele, commended the operatives for their courage and precision during the operation.
“The success of this operation is a clear indication of Amotekun’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property in Osun State,” he stated. “We also appreciate the support of the FRSC Ogere Command in making this recovery possible.”
The recovered items were returned to Osogbo and formally handed over to their rightful owners on Monday by the Corps’ Operations Commander, Olagunju Joseph, at the Amotekun Headquarters.
Mr. Olanrewaju Omololu, owner of the recovered Toyota Matrix, expressed deep appreciation to the Corps, noting, “They acted swiftly without demanding any money. Their grassroots presence and professionalism are impressive.”
Similarly, Mr. Oyelami Nurudeen, owner of the stolen televisions, praised the operatives for their rapid response and urged residents to support the Corps in its crime-fighting efforts.
Commander Omoyele urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities in their communities.
“Security is a collective responsibility. Our doors remain open for intelligence and reports from the public. Osun Amotekun will continue to ensure that criminals find no safe haven in our state,” he said.
The Osun Amotekun Corps reiterated its commitment to its mandate of protecting lives and property, reinforcing its role as a proactive and dependable security outfit in the state.
