Serious Road Crash Near Ikota School Leaves Two Critically Injured |LAGOS EYE NEWS

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has reported a serious road traffic accident that occurred earlier today near Ikota School, inward Ajah, along the busy Lekki-Ajah corridor.

The crash involved a white Ford Jeep (registration number: KWL 574 CY) and a fully loaded commercial mini-bus (plate number: FST 207 YK).

In a statement released on Thursday, Adebayo Taofiq, Director, Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department, LASTMA said preliminary investigations reveal that the Ford Jeep, allegedly moving at a dangerously high speed, lost control and violently collided with the commercial bus. The impact left the mini-bus severely damaged.

Tragically, the mini-bus driver slipped into a coma after sustaining a severe fracture to his right arm. Another passenger suffered a heavy nasal hemorrhage and lost consciousness on the spot.

LASTMA officers responded swiftly, ensuring prompt evacuation of the injured victims to a nearby medical facility and securing the accident scene to prevent further disruption to traffic. Officers from the Ajiwe Divisional Police Headquarters also provided essential security support during the operation.

Reacting to the incident, the General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, condemned the reckless driving behavior that led to the crash.

“Excessive speed remains a foremost contributor to fatal road incidents. Motorists are strongly advised to exercise prudence and prioritize life over haste,” he warned.

Mr. Bakare-Oki wished the injured a speedy recovery and reaffirmed the Agency’s unwavering commitment to proactive traffic management and the protection of lives on Lagos roads.
