The Gateway Games 2024 continues to deliver thrilling action and impressive displays of athleticism as participating states vie for supremacy on the medal table.
LAGOS EYE NEWS reports that as of 12:00 PM on Monday, a total of 1,047 medals have been awarded, comprising 318 gold, 307 silver, and 422 bronze.
Delta State remains the dominant force at the Games, leading the medal standings with an impressive haul of 164 medals, including 66 gold, 39 silver, and 59 bronze. Bayelsa State is in close pursuit with 109 medals (45 gold, 34 silver, 30 bronze), while host state Ogun continues to impress, securing third place with 96 medals (38 gold, 24 silver, 34 bronze).
Rivers State is not far behind, racking up 101 medals with 37 gold, 28 silver, and 36 bronze. Edo State boasts one of the highest overall tallies at 154 medals and leads in silver medals with 67. Lagos, Oyo, and Osun States complete the top eight, reflecting strong, well-rounded performances across various sporting disciplines.
Several states and contingents have made notable strides despite limited representation. Plateau, Cross River, and Kwara States, along with the Invited Junior Athletes (IJA), have showcased determination and emerging talent. States such as Anambra, Imo, and Kano have also earned multiple medals, underscoring the widespread competitiveness of this year’s edition.
Meanwhile, a few states, including Kebbi, Jigawa, and Taraba, have yet to make significant inroads, managing just a bronze medal each. With days of competition still ahead, the potential for a late surge remains.
