The lawmaker representing Idanre/Ifedore Federal Constituency, Ondo State, Olanrewaju Akingbaso, has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
His defection letter was read on the House floor on Wednesday by Speaker Abbas Tajudeen, citing internal conflicts within the PDP and a desire to align with President Bola Tinubu’s development agenda.
However, House Minority Leader, Kingsley Chinda, objected, arguing the defection was a personal decision, not one backed by Akingbaso’s constituents.
He urged the House to enforce Section 68 (1g) of the Constitution, which the Speaker sustained.
