Suspected Burglar Arrested by Nigerian Legion for Vandalising Govt Property in Akure|LAGOS EYE NEWS
Members of the Nigerian Legion have apprehended a suspected burglar for vandalising the perimeter fence of the government Cenotaph located near the Adegbemile Cultural Centre in Akure, the Ondo State capital.
The suspect was reportedly caught in the act of removing iron panels from the fence after allegedly causing repeated damage to both government and private properties in the area.
According to sources, the suspect had concealed his activities using the surrounding bush as cover while perpetrating the criminal acts.
The breakthrough came on Sunday when members of the Nigerian Legion, acting on suspicion that the suspect had returned to the site to continue his illicit activity, launched a coordinated effort to apprehend him.
The suspect was found in possession of underground network cables, and had already removed additional iron panels before he was apprehended.
A member of the Nigerian Legion, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, revealed that the suspect and his accomplices had nearly brought down half of the Cenotaph’s fence under the pretext of entering the nearby bush to defecate. He noted that the legion had been monitoring the suspect’s movements for some time.
“The damage done to government property around the Adegbemile Cultural Centre is enormous,” the source said. “We’ve been trailing these burglars for a while, and fortunately, we caught one of them in the act.”
The suspect is expected to be handed over to the appropriate authorities for further investigation and prosecution.
