Eid el-Kabir: Lagos Command Rolls Out Tactical Squads for Festive Security |LAGOS EYE NEWS

In a bid to ensure a peaceful and secure Eid el-Kabir celebration, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Owohunwa Jimoh, has ordered the immediate deployment of tactical and conventional police units across the state.

According to a statement from the Lagos State Police Command, the deployment includes officers from the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), the EKO Strike Force, and other specialized tactical teams of the Nigeria Police Force. These units have been stationed at strategic locations statewide to forestall any criminal activity during and after the Sallah festivities.

The Command has also mobilized Special Anti-Crime Prevention Teams to known black spots, criminal hideouts, and flashpoints. This proactive measure is aimed at deterring crime, bolstering public confidence, and ensuring the safety of residents and visitors throughout the festive period.

In furtherance of this effort, CP Jimoh has directed the deployment of personnel from various specialized units of the police, including the Mobile Police Force, Counter-Terrorism Unit, Special Protection Unit, Intelligence Bureau, and Anti-Bomb Squad. These officers, supported by Armoured Personnel Carriers and patrol vehicles, will be securing Eid prayer grounds, mosques, recreational centers, and other locations where large gatherings are expected.

“Particular attention will be focused on recreational facilities and public spaces,” the statement noted, “to ensure effective crowd control, seamless traffic management, and free movement of people and vehicles across Lagos.”

The Command emphasized that additional security strategies have been put in place for early crime detection and response. The overall goal, the Commissioner said, is to maintain law and order before, during, and after the celebration.

The Lagos State Police Command will coordinate efforts with other security and emergency response agencies, including the military, paramilitary units, Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), and other state departments, to guarantee the safety of all Lagosians and visitors.

CP Jimoh also charged all police officers to carry out their duties professionally, courteously, and respectfully, while remaining firm in the enforcement of the law.

He urged residents to be law-abiding, cooperate with security personnel, and report any suspicious activity promptly.

“Parents and guardians are advised to caution their children and wards against any actions that may disrupt public peace. Anyone found breaching the law will face its full consequences,” the statement warned
