Tinubu Commissions Renovated Abuja International Conference Centre, Lauds Transformation Efforts |LAGOS EYE NEWS
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Tuesday commissioned the newly renovated Abuja International Conference Centre, describing it as a symbol of Nigeria’s commitment to excellence, transformation, and national pride.
Speaking at the reopening ceremony, President Tinubu commended the efforts that went into revamping the once-dilapidated facility, emphasizing that the transformation reflects the quality, character, and determination of the Nigerian people.
“I’m happy to be here to reopen this International Conference Center as part of our determined effort to change the way we do things—to reflect who we are: a people of quality, character, determination, and great spirit,” the President said.
“I’m glad that, this week, you are truly reflecting that.”
Tinubu praised the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, calling him a transformational leader who possesses the “voice, foresight, vision, and determination to succeed,” and urged him to ignore distractions from “busybodies and bystanders.”
Recalling a previous visit to the center during an ECOWAS Parliament event, President Tinubu described the facility as “dirty, disorganized, and uninhabitable,” prompting a conversation with the Senate President.
“This conference center does not reflect who we are. Have we sunk this low?” he said he asked at the time.
The Senate President assured him, “We are with you. We will do whatever we can to transform this place.”
Expressing satisfaction with the completed renovations, Tinubu praised Julius Berger Nigeria Plc—the contractors handling the project—for their commitment to quality and attention to detail.
“Today, we are not talking about renegotiation. We are talking about rehabilitation. We are talking about quality, attention to detail, and excellent work.
This is good work. It reflects what Julius Berger has been known for in this country for years. Whatever might have been wrong before, today marks a positive shift—we are correcting it.”
He concluded with a reaffirmation of his administration’s reform agenda:
“We are correcting the past. We are reflecting progress. We are renewing our hopes. And we are believing in ourselves.”
In his remarks, Senate President Godswill Akpabio applauded President Tinubu for his leadership and vision, emphasizing the collaboration between the executive and legislative arms of government.
“I’m proud of the fact that we handle the budgeting, we give the approvals, and you carry out the execution,” Akpabio said.
“You have put on your thinking cap, and you are clearly determined to leave Nigeria better than you met it. This is the step we are taking today.”
According to him, this place, after being transformed, should be named after the transformational leader Nigeria has today: Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Center.
“You are showing that the trinity of governance—the Executive, the Legislature, and the Judiciary—is working together for the total transformation of Nigeria under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” Akpabio declared, he commended.
