The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) has warned that any incident of ballot box snatching during Saturday’s local government elections will lead to a by-election in the affected area.
This was disclosed on Thursday by the Chairman of the Commission, Justice Bola Okikiolu-Ighile (retd.), during a press briefing held at Tripple C Event Centre, Sabo, Yaba, Lagos.
Justice Okikiolu-Ighile reiterated the Commission’s commitment to delivering a free, fair, and credible poll across all 57 local government areas and local council development areas (LCDAs) in the state.
“There will be by-elections if a ballot box is snatched anywhere,” she said while responding to questions from journalists, adding that although such disruptions are not anticipated, the Commission is prepared to act decisively to uphold the integrity of the electoral process.
She emphasized that there are currently no threats or reasons to postpone the exercise, assuring the public of LASIEC’s full preparedness.
“We are ready. There is no threat to the conduct of the election. Lagosians can be confident that we will deliver a transparent and peaceful election across all councils,” she added.
The Lagos local government election is scheduled to take place on Saturday, July 12, 2025.
