Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) on patrol around Carter Bridge today successfully averted a potential tragedy involving an elderly woman who attempted to jump into the lagoon.
The incident occurred at about 12:20 p.m., drawing the swift intervention of the RRS officers, who quickly rescued the woman and took her to the squad’s headquarters.
At the RRS office, the Commander, CSP Shola Jejeloye, listened attentively to the womanās account of the events leading to the attempted suicide.
He subsequently permitted her, her husband, and their 30-year-old son to hold a private family meeting in a bid to resolve underlying issues.
Following the emotional session, CSP Jejeloye offered the woman extensive counseling and presented her with a cash gift. The family expressed heartfelt appreciation for the RRSās timely intervention, the Commanderās compassionate counsel, and the financial support extended.
The woman has since been released into the custody of her husband and son.
