Lagos State Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has expressed joy over the sweeping victory of All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates in the just-concluded local government elections held across the state on Saturday, July 12.
In a statement issued Sunday, the Governor described the outcome of the polls as a “resounding victory” and a strong vote of confidence in the APC’s vision, leadership, and commitment to grassroots development. He extended his congratulations to the party’s leaders, stakeholders, and loyal members for what he termed an “overwhelming electoral success.”
“This outcome is a clear affirmation of the trust and confidence that the good people of Lagos have in the APC’s leadership and our unwavering commitment to inclusive development at the grassroots,” Sanwo-Olu stated.
The Governor applauded the people of Lagos for their active participation and peaceful conduct during the elections across the 57 Local Government Areas and Local Council Development Areas (LGAs and LCDAs), describing the victory as “a triumph for democracy and the will of the people.”
To the newly elected Chairmen and Councillors, Sanwo-Olu issued a stern but inspiring charge: “This victory is not an end, but a means to an end—that end being selfless, responsive, and accountable service to the people.” He urged them to prioritize good governance and inclusive service delivery, regardless of political affiliation.

Sanwo-Olu also extended a conciliatory message to aspirants who were unsuccessful in the party primaries, encouraging them to remain committed to the party and the broader democratic process. “Within the APC, we must always prioritize unity above personal ambition,” he said.
Calling for reconciliation and collaboration, the Governor reminded party members that the success of the APC must translate into tangible benefits for every Lagosian.
He further commended the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) for what he described as a peaceful and credible electoral process, and thanked the security agencies for maintaining order throughout the exercise.
Governor Sanwo-Olu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to partnering with the new local government leadership to ensure even development across the state. “Together, we will ensure that no community is left behind on our journey toward a Greater Lagos,” he concluded.
The local government elections are widely seen as a litmus test for grassroots political strength in the state, and the APC’s dominant performance is expected to shape political calculations ahead of future contests.
