NiMet Predicts Thunderstorms, Rains Nationwide from Monday to Wednesday |LAGOS EYE NEWS

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast widespread thunderstorms and rainfall across various parts of the country from Monday, July 21 to Wednesday, July 23, 2025.

In a weather outlook released on Sunday, NiMet predicted early morning thunderstorms and rain over parts of Taraba, Adamawa, Kebbi, Borno, Yobe, Gombe, Bauchi, Sokoto, and Kaduna States on Monday. The rest of the northern region is expected to remain mostly sunny with patches of clouds.

Later in the day, thunderstorms with moderate rains are expected to continue across Adamawa, Taraba, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Katsina, Kano, Zamfara, Kaduna, and Yobe.

Over the central region, cloudy skies are anticipated in the morning, with thunderstorms and light rain likely in Niger State. Afternoon showers are expected in Plateau, Nasarawa, the FCT, Kogi, Benue, and parts of Niger.

In the south, cloudy conditions will dominate the morning hours. Light rainfall is anticipated over Imo, Abia, Bayelsa, Rivers, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom States later in the day.

For Tuesday, sunny conditions with cloud patches are forecast in the northern region in the morning, followed by moderate thunderstorms in Bauchi, Gombe, Yobe, Jigawa, Adamawa, Taraba, Kano, Katsina, and Kaduna States by evening.

Morning rains are also expected over Plateau, Benue, and Nasarawa in the central states, with later thunderstorms likely in FCT, Niger, and Plateau. In the south, moderate rains are expected in Ondo, Imo, Enugu, Anambra, Edo, Rivers, and Bayelsa by afternoon.

On Wednesday, NiMet projects sunny skies with cloud patches over the north, and morning rains in Katsina, Kano, Bauchi, Sokoto, and Taraba. Afternoon storms are expected in Yobe, Jigawa, Kaduna, Borno, and Kebbi.

Moderate to heavy rains are forecast across the FCT, Plateau, Niger, and Kwara in the central belt, while southern states like Ebonyi, Abia, Edo, Ondo, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom may experience significant rainfall in the afternoon or evening.

NiMet urged the public to take safety precautions, noting that strong winds could precede storms. It advised motorists to avoid driving in heavy rain, and residents to disconnect electrical appliances, secure loose items, and stay away from tall trees.

Airline operators are also advised to obtain up-to-date, location-specific weather forecasts for flight planning.
