The Executive Committee of Ijesa Sports Club has announced the immediate suspension of Chief Gbenga Ajibade, following allegations linking him to an attempted murder incident.
According to a statement signed by the Club’s Director of Social and Publicity, Hon. Kenneth Opebiyi, the decision was reached during an emergency meeting held on Wednesday, at the Club’s premises in Ilesa.
The suspension comes in the wake of disturbing allegations that Chief Ajibade attempted to take the life of another individual over a maize theft accusation.
The committee expressed deep concern over widely circulated social media footage, including images shared on Facebook, which allegedly show Chief Ajibade involved in a violent altercation. The Club described the scenes as “alarming and damaging” to its reputation.
“In view of the gravity of the situation and the need to uphold the Club’s integrity, the Executive Committee resolved by majority decision to suspend Chief Ajibade pending the outcome of the ongoing investigation by law enforcement agencies,” the statement read.
The Club emphasized that disciplinary action would be taken against the suspended member once the investigation concludes.
“Ijesa Sports Club was built on principles of respect, justice, and community values. We cannot allow the actions of any member to tarnish our legacy,” Opebiyi stated. “As a respected institution in Ijesaland, we uphold the dignity of every citizen and believe no one is above the law.”
