The Federal High Court, Abuja Division, on Wednesday heard the case between the Federal Republic of Nigeria (FRN) and Olubode Itapaa & two others before Hon. Justice O.A. Egwatu.
During the proceedings, counsel to the 1st and 3rd defendants separately filed motions seeking bail for their clients.
The 1st defendant based his bail request on the claim that his father had died while he was in detention, explaining that, by family tradition, the deceased could not be buried until the first son was present. He assured the court that he would not abscond if granted bail.
Similarly, the 3rd defendant sought bail on grounds of ill health, alleging that he had been vomiting blood while in custody and that his condition had worsened. However, the court noted that no medical report was tendered to substantiate the claim.
The prosecution opposed both applications through counter-affidavits. After hearing arguments from both sides, Justice Egwatu delivered a bench ruling, denying bail to the two defendants.
The matter was subsequently adjourned to January 13, 2026, for further hearing.
