Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong has officially announced his retirement from international football at the age of 32 bringing an end to a distinguished career that cemented his status as one of Nigeria’s most dependable defenders of the modern era.
Troost-Ekong made 83 appearances for Nigeria, featuring in five major international tournaments, including multiple Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) campaigns and the FIFA World Cup.
Over the course of his international journey, he earned three medals, underscoring his consistency, leadership, and unwavering commitment to the national team.
Renowned for his commanding presence in the heart of Nigeria’s defence and his influential leadership in the dressing room, Troost-Ekong leaves the Super Eagles with widespread admiration from fans, teammates, and stakeholders in Nigerian football.
