The Presiding Pastor of Livingspring Chapel International, Pastor Femi Emmanuel, says Christians have failed to use their numbers and resources to promote good governance in Nigeria.
Speaking in Ibadan on Friday, he said many Christians and other patriots avoid political meetings where crucial decisions affecting them are taken.
Emmanuel, the PFN’s National Director of Democracy and Policies, warned that the same leaders would “continue to rule as they like” if Christians keep seeing politics as dirty.
“The church is a sleeping giant. The church does not know its power. It has the numbers to determine who gets to power,” he said.
He noted that a Pentecostal church in Nigeria has “over 11 million members,” adding that Christians “have the number and intellectual capacity but remain asleep on governance.”
He said many grew up believing politics was dirty and unsuitable for Christians, reinforcing the church’s passive posture.
“When politicians visit popular general overseers, they do so for political reasons, to secure support from their members,” he added.
Emmanuel said Nigeria’s economic, political and security challenges are foundational and traceable to the country’s amalgamation.
He urged President Bola Tinubu’s administration to work toward restoring a regional system of government.
He cited Psalm 11:3, saying, “If the foundation is wrong, nothing can be built on it.
“Our problem will be 90 per cent solved if we return to regions. If we don’t, the problem will persist and may worsen,” he said.
He praised President Tinubu’s efforts to curb insecurity, urging Nigerians not to expect instant solutions to longstanding challenges. (NAN)
