Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Tuesday inaugurated the newly constituted Governing Council of the Lagos State University (LASU), with a charge to provide transformative leadership that will strengthen the institution’s rising profile as one of Africa’s foremost universities.
The inauguration ceremony, held at the Banquet Hall of Lagos House, Alausa, Ikeja, was attended by top government functionaries, members of the LASU management team, and the newly appointed 13th Governing Council.
In his remarks, Governor Sanwo-Olu described the appointment of the council members as both an honour and a call to serve, noting that the move aligns with his administration’s commitment to sustaining LASU’s academic excellence, stability, and global competitiveness.
“Today, I formally inaugurated the newly appointed Chairman and members of the Lagos State University Governing Council,” the governor said.
“LASU plays a central role in shaping the future of our young people and strengthening our State’s academic standing. I am confident in the Council’s capacity to guide the university with integrity, focus, and an unwavering commitment to excellence.”
Sanwo-Olu added that he looked forward to the continued growth of the institution and expressed optimism that the new council would build on the achievements of previous administrations to position LASU as a leading institution in Nigeria and beyond.
Speaking further on the university’s recent strides, the governor noted that LASU has grown to become the most sought-after tertiary institution in the country an accomplishment he attributed to consistent academic calendars, strong governance structures, and improvements in teaching and research infrastructure.
