Police Intercept Truck Carrying Suspected Explosives in Ibadan |LAGOS EYE NEWS

The Oyo State Police Command has intercepted a truck conveying materials suspected to be explosive in the Sango area of Ibadan, the state capital.

The command’s spokesperson, Ayanlade Olayinka, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, saying the interception occurred during a stop-and-search operation triggered by credible intelligence.

According to him, the truck driver was arrested, while 42 items believed to be explosive materials were recovered and taken into police custody.

Olayinka said the Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Femi Haruna, has ordered a comprehensive investigation into the incident to ascertain the source and intended destination of the materials.

He added that specialised operatives from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit and the Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) unit have been deployed to secure the items and carry out forensic examinations.

The police spokesperson noted that a detailed forensic analysis is currently ongoing to determine the exact nature of the materials and their intended use.

He assured residents of the state that there is no cause for panic, stressing that the situation is under control and that the command will provide further updates as investigations progress.
