BREAKING: Turkey, Nigeria reaffirm $5bn trade target after leaders’ talks |LAGOS EYE NEWS

Turkey and Nigeria have agreed to step up efforts to boost bilateral trade to five billion dollars, following talks between Presidents Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Ankara.

Speaking at a joint press conference after their meeting at the Presidential Complex, President Erdoğan said both countries saw “significant potential” to expand cooperation, particularly in trade and investment.

He said the leaders had reviewed ties across several sectors, including energy, education, defence and investment, and had discussed concrete steps to deepen economic relations.

“We reaffirmed our commitment to the five-billion-dollar trade volume target and discussed the steps to be taken,” President Erdoğan said.

The Turkish leader described Nigeria as a country of strategic importance, noting close cooperation within international groupings such as the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the Developing Eight (D-8), especially on issues affecting the Islamic world, including the Palestinian question.

President Erdoğan said the discussions built on the framework agreed during his visit to Nigeria in October 2021, adding that recent decisions could “significantly elevate” bilateral relations.

He also pointed to the size of the Nigerian delegation as evidence of strong political will on both sides to expand cooperation, particularly in business and investment.
