The Oyo State Police Command has thwarted a planned bandit attack on Elebe Village in the Aleniboro area, neutralizing two armed suspects during an intelligence-led operation.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Command’s spokesman, Ayanlade Olayinka, disclosed that the operation was initiated following credible intelligence from a concerned resident about the presence of about ten armed men hiding in a farm settlement with plans to launch a night attack on the community.
According to the statement, the suspects were heavily armed with two AK-47 rifles, single-barrel guns, and locally made pistols.
The Divisional Police Officer in Tede Division promptly alerted the Commissioner of Police, Femi Haruna, who ordered the immediate deployment of additional operational assets to the area.
Police operatives, working in collaboration with local hunters in Aleniboro, advanced to the suspects’ hideout. Upon sighting the approaching team, the suspects reportedly opened fire, leading to a gun battle. Two of the bandits were neutralized during the exchange, while others fled the scene with suspected gunshot injuries.
The Commissioner of Police commended the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, for his continued logistical and operational support to the Command.
He also urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious movements or activities to security agencies to help maintain peace and safety in their communities.
