Umar Namadi Secures Approval to Develop Dutse Airport as Cargo Hub |LAGOS EYE NEWS

Umar Namadi has announced that approval has been secured to begin installing cargo facilities at Dutse International Airport, as part of plans to transform it into a cargo hub.

In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Hamisu Mohammed Gumel, the governor said the state government had received clearance from the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria to commence work on the project.

Mr Namadi made the remarks on Sunday during a routine inspection and calibration exercise at the airport carried out by a technical team from the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency.

Speaking during the visit, the governor stressed the importance of adhering to global aviation standards.

“Today is an important day for us in our efforts to ensure that all airport facilities in Jigawa State operate in accordance with best practices,” he said.

He commended the airport’s management for what he described as a proactive approach to safety, particularly through the ongoing calibration of navigational equipment.

Responding to questions from journalists, Mr Namadi said discussions with the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria had culminated in approval to install cargo handling facilities, describing it as a preparatory step towards the full launch of cargo operations at the airport.

He expressed confidence that the airport would maintain high operational standards as it works towards becoming a leading cargo facility.

The leader of the NAMA technical team said their mission in Dutse was to inspect navigational aids and ensure compliance with standards set by the International Civil Aviation Organization. He added that, following ground checks, further assessments would be conducted to certify that all equipment was operating at optimal levels.
