Kenya: Waringa Announces Presidential Run, Vows Institutional Reform and Unity |LAGOS EYE NEWS
Ambassador Esther Waringa has announced that she will run in Kenya’s 2027 presidential election, promising a leadership approach centred on public service, institutional reform and national unity.
In a statement made available to LAGOS EYE NEWS, Waringa said she was entering the race because leadership must rise above partisan interests and return to what she described as its “true calling service to the people”.
She said that despite Kenya’s significant economic and human potential, corruption, weak institutions and divisive politics continued to limit opportunities for many citizens.
“Governance should be humanity-centred,” she said, arguing that policies must prioritise the dignity, security and prosperity of citizens rather than political survival.
She added that public service should function as “an engine of excellence” rather than a vehicle for patronage.
Waringa outlined a platform focused on restoring integrity in public office, strengthening state institutions, empowering young people and advancing women’s leadership.
She also pledged to promote economic inclusion and national cohesion, promising greater accountability, transparency and measurable outcomes in government.
“I am running because I believe ethical leadership is not optional, it is urgent,” she said, describing her bid as a responsibility to serve “with courage and conviction”.
If elected, Ms Waringa would become Kenya’s first female president since independence in 1963. While women have previously held senior political offices including county governorships won in 2017 by Joyce Laboso, Anne Waiguru and Charity Ngilu the presidency has never been occupied by a woman. Prominent national figures such as Martha Karua have also played key roles in Kenyan politics.
Waringa launched her campaign under the theme: “Leadership Beyond Politics; Service Beyond Promises.”
