The Nigerian film industry is in mourning following the death of popular comic actor Bamidele Tope Saint, widely known as Okemesi.
Okemesi died on Tuesday at about 11:50 local time, according to a fellow actor.
The news was confirmed by actor Tony Montana Jeff in a video posted on Instagram.
He said doctors pronounced Okemesi dead at 11:50am and that his body had been taken to the morgue.
Speaking in the video, he said he was announcing the death on behalf of the Bamidele family and that further details regarding funeral arrangements would be communicated in due course.
Local reports say the actor had slipped into a coma following complications related to medication administered at a hospital. However, further details about the circumstances surrounding his death have not yet been officially released.
Okemesi was widely recognised in Nollywood for his comic roles and had built a strong following among fans for his performances on screen.
Tributes have begun pouring in from colleagues and fans across social media, describing him as a talented entertainer whose presence will be greatly missed in the industry.
