Thirteen Vehicle Inspection Service (VIS) offices across Lagos are being renovated or rebuilt as part of a state-wide infrastructure upgrade programme, officials have said.
The projects, supervised by the Lagos State Infrastructure Asset Management Agency (LASIAMA), are aimed at modernising public service facilities and improving working conditions for staff.
During an inspection of sites in Igbogbo in Ikorodu and Owode in Kosofe, the Head of LASIAMA’s Special Projects Unit, Kazeem Ogunlana, said the initiative would enhance productivity and service delivery.
At Igbogbo, an ageing portacabin office is being replaced with a new purpose-built structure. Officials said a long-standing water supply problem at the site had also been resolved through the installation of a borehole, which is now operational and serving staff and nearby buildings.
Mr Ogunlana said the upgrades had boosted morale among VIS officers, adding that the agency was maintaining strict supervision to ensure contractors adhered to agreed timelines and standards.
The four-month projects, due for completion between April and May, cover VIS offices in Akilo, Oko-Oba, Agege, Liasu, Iponri, Cele, Ibeju-Lekki, Olowu, Victoria Island, Mile 2, PWD, Igbogbo and Owode, as well as the VIS headquarters in Ojodu.
According to LASIAMA, the scope of work varies by location. New buildings are under construction at Igbogbo, Victoria Island and PWD, while new portacabins are being installed at Liasu, Akilo, Cele and Mile 2. Renovation works are ongoing at Iponri, Owode, Ibeju-Lekki, Ojodu, Oko-Oba and Olowu.
Contractors involved in the scheme said the developments would significantly improve the facilities. Ogundiji Samson, project director at Rino Favale Limited, said the Igbogbo site had previously been undeveloped land.
“By the time we are done, a befitting edifice will stand here,” he said.
He added that about 90% of workers engaged on the project were recruited locally, contributing to employment within host communities. He also commended LASIAMA’s oversight, describing it as consistent and thorough.
The upgrades form part of the broader development agenda of Babajide Sanwo-Olu, whose administration says it is focused on improving public infrastructure and delivering more efficient services to residents.
LASIAMA said it remained committed to providing safe and modern workspaces for state personnel, noting that improved infrastructure was key to strengthening public confidence in government services.
