Thirty-two suspected terrorists, including a lawyer, their firearm suppliers, logistics handlers and other enablers have been arrested in Kwara State, the police confirmed yesterday.
Their arrests followed intensified counter-terrorrism operations by the detectives of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT), the state Police Command specialised units and other security agencies in forests corridors and transport routes.
The suspects, including an alleged Abuja based-lawyer and two Niger Republic nationals, allegedly belonged to various gangs that have terrorised Kwara and neighbouring states since resumed extremism in the Northcentral and Northwest.
The lawyer was alleged to have supplied sophisticated weapons to two gangs, including one headed by his younger brother linked to several kidnapping incidents in forest areas, while the foreigners were alleged to have collaborated with local terrorists in cross-border criminal activities.
It was gathered that a notorious suspect who went viral on TikTok for posting videos of ransom and brandishing firearms was also arrested.
