The Sultanate Council Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, in collaboration with the National Moon Sighting Committee, has announced that no reports were received from Moon Sighting Committees across Nigeria confirming the sighting of the new moon of Shawwal 1447AH on Wednesday, 18th March 2026, corresponding to the 29th day of Ramadan 1447AH.
This was disclosed in a statement released by Prof. Sambo Wali Junaidu, Wazirin Sokoto and Chairman of the Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, Sultanate Council, Sokoto.
As a result, Thursday, 19th March 2026 will mark the 30th day of Ramadan 1447AH.
Following this, His Eminence, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, the Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), has accepted the report and officially declared Friday, 20th March 2026 as the first day of Shawwal 1447AH, the day of Eid-El-Fitr.
The Sultan felicitated with the Nigerian Muslim Ummah, praying for Allah’s guidance and blessings, and urged Muslims to continue supplicating for peace, progress, and development across the country.
He also extended warm wishes for a joyful Eid-El-Fitr, praying that Allah (SWT) accepts the religious deeds of all Muslims. Amin.
