The Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Adebo Ogundoyin, has dismissed allegations that he received funds from proxies of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to facilitate the impeachment of Governor Seyi Makinde, describing the claims as false and politically motivated.
In a statement addressing the controversy, Ogundoyin maintained that no financial transactions took place at any meeting, insisting the allegation was fabricated to damage his reputation and destabilise both the state government and the legislature.
The Speaker revealed that although he was approached with enticing offers, he rejected them outright, stressing that his loyalty to the governor, the ruling party, and the people of Oyo State remains unwavering.
He further stated that he would not betray the mandate entrusted to him by the electorate or engage in any action capable of undermining Makinde’s administration.
Ogundoyin reaffirmed his commitment to the current government, assuring that no individual or group would succeed in creating division between him and the governor or disrupting the collective mandate of the administration.
He added that under his leadership, the Assembly remains dedicated to upholding constitutional order, promoting good governance, and protecting the interests of the people.
The Speaker also noted that he has consistently kept Governor Makinde informed of his engagements.
Addressing a separate allegation linking his recent visit to the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Rashidi Ladoja, to political manoeuvring, Ogundoyin clarified that the visit was purely consultative and had taken place weeks earlier.
According to him, the meeting was to formally inform the monarch of his governorship ambition and seek royal blessings, in line with tradition and respect for the institution.
He urged members of the public to disregard what he described as baseless claims aimed at creating disunity within the state’s political leadership.
