Senator Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, has expressed profound gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, and elder statesman Segun Osoba following his emergence as the All Progressives Congress (APC) consensus candidate for the 2027 Ogun State governorship election.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the senator, who represents Ogun West in the National Assembly, credited the trio with providing the political backing that secured his adoption as the party’s preferred flag-bearer for the governorship contest.
Adeola described President Tinubu’s leadership as “visionary” and expressed appreciation for what he termed the President’s “unwavering commitment” to the advancement of the APC and the Nigerian nation.
He further praised Governor Abiodun and Chief Osoba for their mentorship and expressed confidence in the mandate conferred on him by party stakeholders across the state.
“This nomination is deeply humbling,” the senator said, pledging fidelity to the APC’s core values and principles. “We will work tirelessly to ensure victory and deliver greater progress for the people of Ogun State.”
Adeola assured residents and party members alike of his determination to consolidate on the developmental strides recorded in the state under the current administration, and vowed to prosecute a united and robust campaign ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Party insiders say the decision to adopt a consensus candidate reflects deliberate moves within APC leadership to forestall internal divisions and project a united front ahead of the election cycle.
Political analysts note that Ogun State remains a critical bastion for the ruling party, and that early convergence among heavyweight stakeholders including a sitting president, an incumbent governor, and a former governor is significant.
Although the APC is yet to release a formal timetable for its gubernatorial primaries, party sources confirm that consultations are ongoing at both state and national levels, with the endorsement of figures of Tinubu, Abiodun, and Osoba’s stature widely expected to shape candidate permutations across the state.
