The government of Namibia, under the leadership of newly sworn-in President Dr. Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, has announced a new visa policy requiring all U.S. citizens to obtain entry visas before arriving in the country.
In a strong move toward asserting national sovereignty, the Namibian government stated that any U.S. citizens found within its borders without a fully approved visa would be classified as an “illegal alien” and dealt with in accordance with national immigration laws.
This announcement comes amid reports that over 500 U.S. nationals are currently engaged in mining activities—ranging from diamonds and gold to uranium and copper—without proper documentation.
The government has issued a directive ordering all such individuals to leave Namibian territory by April 1. Forced removals are expected to begin on April 2 for those who fail to comply.
Namibia, recognized as one of the world’s leading diamond producers, has also signaled a significant policy shift, declaring its intent to take full control of its diamond mining operations.
