The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has banned media houses from airing Nigerian rapper Eedris Abdulkareem’s latest song, Tell Your Papa, over its critical lyrics targeting the current administration.
The controversial track directly addresses Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu, urging him to speak to his father about the country’s worsening conditions.
In the song, Abdulkareem sings:
“Seyi, tell your papa country hard. Tell your papa people dey die. Tell your papa this one don pass jagajaga.”
He continues with a scathing critique:
“Seyi, how far? I swear your papa no try. Too much empty promises. On behalf of Nigerians, take our message to him; kidnappers dey kill Nigerians.”
The artist also challenges the president’s son to experience the hardship of ordinary citizens:
“Seyi, try travel by road without your security and make you feel the pains of fellow Nigerians. You dey fly private jets, insecurity no be your problem.”
In response, the NBC has issued a circular to broadcast stations, directing them not to play the song.
The Commission reportedly cited the content as being in violation of broadcasting codes, particularly those concerning political content and national unity.
