A group of women staged a peaceful protest in Port Harcourt on Thursday, marching from a major road to the Rivers State Government House to demand the return of Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the restoration of democratic governance in the state.
The protesters carried placards with bold inscriptions such as “Bring Back Fubara”, “Save Our Democracy”, “Is the Law Different for Rivers State?”, and “God of Justice, Arise for Rivers State.”
Chanting solidarity songs and calling for an end to what they described as an “emergency rule” in the state, the women called on the federal government and relevant authorities to uphold the rule of law and respect the will of the people.
“We want Governor Fubara back,” one of the women was heard saying in a viral video from the protest. Other placards read: “#BringBackFubara,” “Obey the Rule of Law,” and “We Need Our Democracy Restored.”
Speaking to reporters, one of the protesters said, “We are peaceful people and do not deserve this kind of injustice.
The governor has been doing his job despite the distractions. What is happening now is not democracy.”
Another protest leader added, “We are here to defend our votes and the sanctity of our democracy. This is beyond Fubara; it’s about justice and the future of Rivers State.”
