The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) on Wednesday participated in the Waste Policy Workshop organized by Tetra Pak, held at the Sheraton Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos.
The interactive workshop focused on key areas such as waste collection and recycling, innovation in sustainable Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR), the ban on Single Use Plastics (SUP), and circular economy strategies—geared toward promoting sustainable waste management solutions in Lagos State.
Delivering a goodwill message at the event, the General Manager of LASEPA, Dr. Babatunde Ajayi, reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to environmental protection and sustainable development through collaborative and responsible waste management initiatives.
“We are happy to be part of the workshop. It is a great pleasure to be part of this impactful event,” Dr. Ajayi said.
“At our agency, our mandate is to safeguard the environment — the air, the land, and the water — thereby promoting sustainable development in our great State. As Lagos continues to develop, it is our responsibility to ensure that this progress does not come at the expense of our environment.”
Represented by the Director of Environmental Sustainability, Mrs. Adedayo Adebayo, the GM emphasized the importance of stakeholder collaboration and compliance with environmental regulations. He noted that discussions around the circular economy and recycling are vital to building a resilient and eco-friendly Lagos.
“Our desire is a healthier, safer environment — devoid of pollution — and that is the core mandate of our agency,” he concluded.
The workshop was attended by dignitaries and representatives from the Lagos State Ministry of the Environment, Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), Civil Society Organizations, NGOs, and the private sector, all contributing to a united effort toward sustainable environmental practices in the state.
