Easter: LAGESC Urges Environmental Consciousness, Proper Waste Disposal in Lagos |LAGOS EYE NEWS

As Christians around the world celebrated the resurrection of Jesus Christ on Easter Sunday, the Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC), popularly known as KAI, has called for renewed environmental consciousness and proper waste disposal among residents of Lagos State during and after the festivities.

This appeal was contained in a statement released to the press by the Corps Marshal of the Agency, Major Olaniyi Olatunbosun Cole (Rtd), at the Agency’s Command Headquarters in Bolade, Oshodi.

According to him, “Easter is a significant celebration for Christians as it commemorates the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. As we observe this sacred season, we are encouraged to emulate Christ’s values, be intentionally mindful of our environment, and dispose of refuse appropriately through approved Private Sector Participants (PSPs).”

Major Cole also issued a stern warning to street traders, urging them to desist from illegal practices such as improper waste disposal, street trading, and the erection of unauthorized structures on road setbacks, lay-bys, kerbs, medians, verges, and gutter slabs—all of which violate the State’s Environmental Protection Laws.

He emphasized that offenders apprehended by the Agency would be prosecuted in a court of competent jurisdiction.

In addition, the Corps Marshal reiterated the importance of pedestrian safety, advising residents to use pedestrian bridges when crossing major highways to reduce incidents of hit-and-run accidents caused by speeding motorists.

He further disclosed that KAI operatives would remain on duty during and after the Easter
