The Lagos State Taskforce has debunked claims linking its officials to the arrest and alleged extortion of a lady seen in a viral video after being apprehended for driving on the BRT lane along Anthony inward Ketu.
In a statement issued by the Director of Public Affairs, Gbadeyan Abdulraheem, the agency clarified that the operatives involved in the incident were not affiliated with the Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Unit.
“The Lagos State Taskforce had no involvement in the unfortunate incident. Available records confirm that we neither have offices nor deploy personnel to operate around Ketu, and no team was assigned to patrol the BRT corridor at the time,” the statement read.
The Taskforce emphasized that BRT corridors fall under the jurisdiction of the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), which has its own dedicated Monitoring and Enforcement Team.
Describing the social media narrative as “baseless, untrue, and misleading,” the agency urged the public to avoid spreading misinformation and clarified that not all policemen seen in tactical jackets are affiliated with the Taskforce. Legitimate officers, it said, can be identified by their unique identification numbers.
The agency further encouraged members of the public with credible complaints or evidence against any of its officials to come forward for proper investigation and action.
Reiterating its commitment to professionalism and due process, the Taskforce stated that all arrests by its operatives are conducted humanely and followed by legal adjudication in court.
The agency concluded by urging Lagosians to remain law-abiding and desist from circulating unfounded claims.
