The Lagos State House of Assembly has summoned the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) to clarify the guidelines for the upcoming local government elections scheduled for July 2025.
The motion was moved by Hon. Rotimi Ajomale, Chairman of the House Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights, Public Petitions, and LASIEC.
He stressed the need for LASIEC officials to brief the House on their level of preparedness for the elections.
“People are beginning to ask questions, and as the Chairman of the LASIEC Committee, I cannot provide the answers alone. We need LASIEC to come forward and explain the election procedures,” Ajomale said.
Supporting the motion, Hon. Kehinde Joseph expressed concern that the commission has not yet briefed the House, emphasizing the urgency of summoning them.
Also speaking, Hon. Bonu Solomon, who represents Badagry I, noted that opposition parties have raised complaints and that it is important for LASIEC to address these concerns by explaining the guidelines.
Hon. Stephen Ogundipe, Chairman of the House Committee on Information and Strategy, added that he is particularly interested in LASIEC’s plans for election security.
In his remarks, Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, agreed that LASIEC must appear before the House to present their preparations and ensure transparency in the electoral process.
