Workers’ Day: House of Reps Salutes Nigerian Workers, Reaffirms Commitment to Welfare |LAGOS EYE NEWS

The House of Representatives has paid glowing tribute to Nigerian workers on the occasion of International Workers’ Day, praising their resilience, sacrifice, and critical role in national development.

In a statement signed by the Spokesman of the House, Rep. Akin Rotimi Jr., the 10th Assembly expressed profound appreciation to workers across various sectors—including civil service, agriculture, technology, education, healthcare, industry, and the informal economy—for their indispensable contributions to the country’s progress.

“The labour, sacrifice, and resilience of Nigerian workers remain enduring pillars of our national development,” the statement read. “Despite economic and global challenges, it is through their steadfast commitment that governance, productivity, and social progress continue to thrive.”

Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, in his goodwill message, described Nigerian workers as true partners in progress.

He lauded the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) for their constructive engagement with the Federal Government, especially amid current economic challenges.

“Workers deserve better welfare, and the labour unions should be commended for their understanding with the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu Administration concerning their welfare, following the current difficult economic realities,” the Speaker stated.

He further urged workers to continue serving the nation with zeal and patriotism, stressing that national development hinges on the collective efforts and productivity of all citizens.

Also speaking, the Chairman of the House Committee on Labour, Employment and Productivity, Rep. Adegboyega Adefarati, praised the patriotism of Nigerian workers and emphasized the need for renewed recognition of honest labour in nation-building.

“Today, we honour the quiet sacrifices, unyielding hope, and unwavering commitment of Nigerian workers to the collective good,” Adefarati said. “We must all renew our appreciation for the value of honest work and shared responsibility.”

The House reaffirmed its commitment to enacting legislation that ensures fair earnings, dignified livelihoods, and inclusive prosperity for all workers.
