Bayelsa State Governor Senator Douye Diri has dismissed 27 political appointees for attending a political gathering aligned with former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike.
The sacked officials, including Special Assistants and members of the Grassroots Mobilisation team, participated in an event organised by the NEW Associates, a pro-Tinubu political group.
The decision has sparked controversy within the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, with a faction condemning the move as “unjust” and “a demonstration of intolerance.”
Derri Alasuote Wright, Publicity Secretary of the PDP Caretaker Committee, urged Governor Diri to reverse the decision, emphasizing the importance of upholding democratic values.
However, Ebiye Ogoli, Publicity Secretary of the PDP State Working Committee, dismissed the caretaker committee’s position, stating it holds no legitimacy within the party structure.
