No fewer than 74 individuals were arrested during a late-night operation carried out by the Lagos State Environmental Taskforce in parts of Lagos Island.
The State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed this via his official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Tuesday.
According to Wahab, the raid began around 1:00 a.m. and targeted areas known for environmental violations and illegal settlements. The operation covered locations including Falomo Bridge, Eko Hotel Roundabout, Oniru Beach, Law School, Lekki Phase 1 & 2, and the 1004 estate area.
He stated that a total of 74 individuals — 72 males and 2 females — were apprehended during the enforcement exercise.
“The presence of some undesirable elements was noticed, and during the raid exercise, sanity was restored in all the affected areas,” Wahab said.
The Commissioner confirmed that all suspects will be charged to court in accordance with the law.
