The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has urged Nigerians to refrain from making unfounded insinuations about its operations, insisting it should be allowed to carry out its mandate without fear or favour.
This call comes in the wake of the Commission’s arrest of Martins Vincent Otse, who was invited for questioning following a series of petitions alleging his involvement in various financial crimes. Despite repeated invitations sent through his known addresses and communication channels, Otse reportedly failed to honour the summons.
According to the EFCC, the allegations against Otse are grave and involve serious financial misconduct that cannot be overlooked.
The Commission acknowledged that it is aware of “unguarded attacks” allegedly made by the suspect against its operations but maintained that his arrest was based solely on the petitions and not as a reaction to his comments.
“The relevant law enforcement agencies will address his conduct accordingly, but the EFCC’s action remains within the confines of its lawful duties,” the statement read.
The Commission confirmed that Otse is currently in lawful custody under a valid remand order and has been granted administrative bail, which will take effect once he meets all stipulated conditions.
While thanking Nigerians for their keen interest and engagement in its activities, the EFCC emphasized that its investigations and operations are guided strictly by law and due process.
“The EFCC should be allowed to do its job without fear or favour,” it reiterated.
The Commission added that formal charges will be filed against Otse upon the conclusion of ongoing investigations.
