Arsenal Club: Masters of the Almost, Champions of “Next Season” |LAGOS EYE NEWS

In what’s now a yearly footballing rom-com with a tragic twist, Arsenal have once again wrapped up the season with all the fireworks of a wet sparkler. Hopes were high, chants were louder, and the kits were freshly ironed—but alas, the Gunners managed to dodge every trophy as if they were allergic to silverware. FA Cup? Ghosted. Carabao Cup? Slipped on a banana peel. Premier League? Bottled. Champions League? Let’s just say they packed lighter than their round-of-16 dreams.

Arsenal’s most consistent achievement remains breaking fan expectations with Swiss watch precision.

Fans marched into the season armed with faith, foam fingers, and Twitter memes ready to pop—but as competitions came and went, optimism deflated faster than a £100M striker’s confidence after a missed penalty.

Meanwhile, rival clubs were lifting trophies as if they were on a shopping spree at Silverware Central. And there stood Arsenal, spinning in a carousel of “We Go Again.” Mikel Arteta, a tactical genius by day and motivational speaker by night, continues to deliver strategies titled: “How to Almost Win but Dramatically Fall Short for Cinematic Effect.”

Now entering their fifth consecutive year of winning absolutely nothing major, Arsenal might as well commission a plaque that reads: “Trophyless, But Stylish Since 2020.” On the bright side, they didn’t get relegated—which is a sentence that should never be used as consolation. Even Spurs fans, who usually rent their joy, are having a giggle as they strut into a European final.

And just to sprinkle some extra salt, Manchester United—described by their own manager Amorim as “the worst team in the league”—might actually win a European title this year, 2025. If that’s not football comedy gold, what is? North London remains the home of “almost,” where the only thing Arsenal lift is morale and also eat the leftover rice—briefly, before the reality of next season strikes again.
