The Parastatals Monitoring Office has announced plans to commence a pilot verification exercise for pensioners who were directly recruited by Parastatals and Agencies with independent recruitment powers within the civil service structure.
The disclosure was made by the Permanent Secretary of the Office, Mrs. Adetutu Oluremi Ososanya, during the 2025 Ministerial Press Briefing held at the Bagauda Kaltho Press Centre, Alausa, Ikeja. The briefing formed part of activities marking the sixth year in office of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu.
According to Mrs. Ososanya, the initiative aims to promote transparency, accuracy, and efficiency in pension administration, particularly in data management and payment processes.
“In preparation for the exercise, we have carried out sensitisation programmes for Chief Executive Officers of Parastatals, Agencies, and Government-Owned Companies, along with their senior officials, to fully inform them about the objectives and implementation procedures,” she stated.
She explained that the verification will involve both data collation and physical or online verification of pensioners. The exercise will be conducted in collaboration with the Lagos State Pension Commission (LASPEC) and the Ministry of Establishments and Training to ensure seamless coordination.
Heads of Parastatals and Agencies are expected to disseminate the information to their teams, who will in turn liaise with pensioners under their purview. This cascading strategy, Ososanya said, is designed to improve participation and ensure pensioners are adequately informed of their roles in the verification process.
“This strategic approach will significantly enhance participation, streamline the verification process, and help the State develop an accurate, up-to-date database of this category of pensioners,” she said.
The Permanent Secretary described the exercise as a crucial intervention in reforming the pension management system for government-affiliated bodies.
She concluded, “The sensitisation programme has laid the foundation for strengthening our pension systems, safeguarding public funds, and ensuring that pensioners receive the full benefits they have earned over the years.”
