Chairmanship candidates have emerged for four Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in Lagos State at the ongoing All Progressives Congress (APC) Local Government primaries.
The consensus process, which took place at the party’s secretariat in Ikeja, saw Mr. Isa Jubril selected for Iba LCDA, Mr. Azeez Kareem for Oto-Awori LCDA, Rasaq Kasali for Lekki LCDA, and Motunrayo Gbadebo for Ijede LCDA. All four aspirants were unopposed and affirmed by delegates.
In a similar fashion, notable withdrawals in some Local Government Areas (LGAs) paved the way for the emergence of unchallenged candidates. In Surulere LGA, other aspirants stepped down in favour of Mr. Bamidele Sulaimon Yusuf, while in Kosofe LGA, Mr. Moyosore Ogunlewe emerged as the sole candidate after his opponents withdrew.
The Chairman of the Lagos APC Electoral Committee, Mr. Babatunde Ogala, confirmed that delegates from local councils with consensus candidates were allowed to affirm their choices before voting commenced in councils with multiple aspirants.
“Some Local Governments seem to have done their process at home. We will take them first so that they affirm and depart,” Ogala said. He added that aspirants were free to withdraw, and urged delegates to exit the venue after voting to avoid congestion.
Meanwhile, voting was still ongoing for other LGAs at the time of filing this report.
Addressing delegates before the commencement of voting, Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, appealed for calm and orderliness.
“We take this exercise very seriously. Our president, who is our leader and father, is monitoring us from Abuja,” Hamzat said. “This is his state, and he cares deeply about the grassroots. LASIEC is here to observe. Let’s be calm, patient, and do this well.”
The deputy governor emphasized that APC remains the dominant party in Lagos, urging members not to give room to opposition parties.
