Wike Claims Fubara, Two APC Governors Visited Him for Peace Talks |LAGOS EYE NEWS

Amid heightened political tension in Rivers State, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has confirmed that Governor Siminalayi Fubara recently visited him to seek peace, accompanied by two serving governors of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and an elder statesman.

Wike disclosed this on Monday while speaking to journalists in Abuja, saying the visit was initiated by Fubara in a bid to resolve the lingering political rift between them.

“Fubara came to me with two Governors and one elder statesman. Just that they are both APC Governors. He said he wants peace,” Wike stated.

According to reports, the closed-door meeting took place at Wike’s Abuja residence. Governor Fubara was accompanied by Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru, and former Ogun State Governor Olusegun Osoba.

The report gathered said that Governor Fubara “walked straight into Wike’s living room because that’s a familiar terrain” and made a personal appeal for reconciliation to end the protracted political crisis threatening governance in the state.

The face-off between the two politicians — once allies — has disrupted political stability in Rivers since late 2023. President Bola Tinubu was forced to step in earlier this year, suspending Governor Fubara in March after a breakdown in relations and control over state structures escalated.

Although details of the Abuja peace meeting remain undisclosed, the presence of APC stakeholders in Fubara’s delegation has raised speculation about possible political realignments or behind-the-scenes negotiations coordinated by the Presidency.
