Comfort Adeaga has shared her harrowing experience of relocating to Dubai in search of greener pastures. Armed with hope, perseverance, and unrelenting faith, she endured hardship, fasting, and countless prayers, believing that her struggles would one day become a testimony. However, she soon realized that the United Arab Emirates was not a land for hustlers, but rather a destination designed for luxury and leisure.
She narrated her ordeal through the excerpt on the facebook:”
In October 2019, I left Nigeria. It wasn’t for a business trip, not for a vacation, and definitely not for shopping. I left in search of greener pastures. To maintain anonymity, I won’t be tagging anyone in my post.
I landed at Dubai International Airport with just a 3-month visa and a heart full of hope. The plan was simple: get a job, have the company sponsor my residency, and begin a new chapter. But life didn’t go as planned.
One month in, I got a job as a waitress. But it was nothing like waitressing back home. I stood for 8 hours straight, with only a 30 to 45-minute break. My legs were in constant pain. And the worst part? The company didn’t process my residency papers. I had to renew my visa with my little “chicken change” salary.
Another three months passed. Eventually, the company laid off some staff, and I was one of them.
Everything changed. Rent in Dubai is paid monthly, unlike Nigeria where you pay yearly. I was paying for a bunk bed in a shared apartment. Not a room, just a bed. Some bunks were two-step, some three. At one point, I had to share a bunk with my friend Vicky.
With no income, I couldn’t pay rent. I searched for jobs but found nothing substantial. I came to realize that UAE wasn’t built for hustlers, it was built for vacation. Things got worse, but I still didn’t call home begging for help. Not because I didn’t have anyone to turn to, but because I wanted God to show up.
I prayed. I fasted. I pressed in deeper. I wanted to know God for myself. I wanted my life to be proof that God is faithful and that when we call on Him, He answers.
At a point, my dad offered to send money for rent. But I told him, “No, Daddy. If you send it once, you’ll keep sending. Let God supply my needs.”
Then came a three-day fast with my then-fiancé, now husband. We prayed, studied the Word, and kept believing God to show up. During that fast, my breakthrough came.
A dear mum messaged me on Facebook. She connected me to a friend of hers living in the UAE. He listened to my story, and God used him to help me move out. He saved me from homelessness and gave me shelter.
I kept applying for jobs. Still, nothing came. But then, another miracle. A mum from church connected me to a family that had just had a baby. The mother hadn’t recovered fully and needed help.
And just like that, help came. I moved in with the family.
This is to encourage someone out there. There is nothing impossible for God.
If you can wait on Him with all your heart, He will show up just in time. Don’t give up. Keep seeking His face in prayer, in fasting, and in the study of His Word.
